Two Operating Modes Active: The subject participates by blowing into the cone of the instrument where a sample of breath is collected for analysis. Passive: The cone end of the instrument is placed in a space of air where alcohol may be present. This mode can be used without a subject's cooperation or can be used in the area above a drink to determine if it contains alcohol.
